Fashion | 5 Reasons to start a minimal wardrobe in your 20s

Okay so minimalism is all the rage right now, isn't it. Pinterest, Instagram and tumblr are filled with sleek, sassy monochromatic looks that could make you weep with wardrobe envy. I personally love a minimal aesthetic because it looks so effortless and carefree but never looks unkempt - which is the ultimate goal when it comes to style really.

The concept of the true minimalist wardrobe really is based on minimalism. Sticking to a palette of black, white and grey doesn't quite cut it, the point is to actually buy less, horde less and streamline. Now, in your 20s this may seem counterintuitive - we want to have an overflowing wardrobe, full of lots of sparkly things, we want to own the whole of Missguided and PLT because it's cheap and student loan has just dropped. Alas, quality over quantity is the maxim here. Here are 10 reasons why going minimalist is perfect for your 20-something year old self.

Money

I don't know about you, but my student loan does not stretch very far. Financial stability is not really the hallmark of your 20s, so why put extra strain on that already tight budget by buying tonnes of clothes, that you'll probably only wear once or twice before they are consigned to the black hole of your wardrobe? Instead you could use that money for a multitude of other things, such as that holiday to Bali you've been dreaming of, or at least a few more bottles of wine each week.

Time

Whether you're a student or a post-grad, time is probably not your best friend right now. I know that I'm always on the go, whether it's because I've overslept and now have only 30 minutes to get out the door or whether it's because I've had a full day of class and have to rush home to get myself ready for a night out. I do not want to be wasting time umming and ahhing about what I'm going to wear, when I could use that time better elsewhere.

Feeling Put together and More confident

Having a more streamlined wardrobe full of clothes you love, that fit well and that make you feel fabulous will definitely give you a confidence boost every time you walk out of the door. With a minimal wardrobe, that's all you've have left which translates to never committing a fashion faux pas ever again!

Less Stress

A minimal wardrobe is one less thing to worry about. Between bills, deadlines, dating and wondering if you'll have to live off beans on toast for the next century, the last thing you want to be worrying about daily is your outfit choices.

To Create a Signature Style

I'm always going on about signature styles/uniforms/personal dress codes. To me it's the epitome of personal style. People won't notice that you rotate the same outfits/pieces all the time, they'll simply remember how fashionable and put together you always look. If you need more convincing, all the greats have a signature style - Olivia Pope, Audrey Hepburn, Emmanuelle Alt.

What are your thought on the minimal wardrobe concept?
